STAC.jpgThe French Civil Aviation Technical Center (STAC) provides its technical expertise and support on every field related to aviation. It defines research needs and objectives to improve aviation safety and efficiency, it contributes to the drafting of standards and technical regulations through international ICAO working groups, and represents the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) in these working groups, it monitors scientific and technical development on an international level, it products and disseminates know-how and best practices at national and international levels, it coordinates work of researchers and airport, air navigation service providers, pilots, companies, aircraft manufacturer on a national level. Through these missions, the STAC has developed a field of expertise in airport infrastructures. The main STAC contributions in these fields are: guidance and software for a new method to dimension airport pavement, guidance and software to investigate airport pavement with Heavy Weight Deflectometer, guidance and software to manage airport infrastructure, conception of a continuous friction measuring equipment, the Instrument de Mesure Automatique de Glissance (IMAG, ref. European specification prEN 15901-15), development of a model to predict water depth on runways from rain intensity data.
