WP2 - Construction (IFSTTAR)

    The overall objective of WP2 ‘Construction’ is to find the most improvement construction methods for infrastructure useable in at least two or more transport modes. This is achieved through:

    • Exploring the state-of-art in construction activities across the transport modes;
    • Identifying promising opportunities, knowledge and practices from different transport modes for asphalt and concrete structure;
    • Developing roadmaps for future initiatives on cross-modal research in the field of construction;
    • Engaging with stakeholders to advise on the establishment of an “Intermodal construction Working Group”.

     As most improvements in building technologies are driven by needs in infrastructure maintenance, WP2 will act in close cooperation with WP3 “Maintenance” and WP4 “Inspection”.

    The main objectives of WP2 are:

    Knowledge building: Identify existing successful examples of practices and projects related to flexible design, automated techniques and monitoring systems covering the needs of at least two transport modes and enabling owners to construct and maintain transport infrastructure in a quick and cost-effective manner.

    Roadmapping: Identify future common cross-modal research needs. Such an approach across modes would contribute towards enabling the integrated future transport system, it would add value to the mode-specific R&I strategies, agenda’s and roadmaps, while the whole work would also strengthen the culture of partnership among operators of the single transport modes.
